MOVIE RESEARCH #1: 10 THINGS I HATE ABOUT YOU
What conventions of the genre that you chose to base your final task on does this movie have?
10 things I hate about you uses several classical romantic comedy conventions. It includes the storyline enemies-to-lovers. This is where the two actors start off disliking each other but slowly falling in love. The movie also includes misunderstandings and deception which creates conflict before the resolution. However, it ends with a happy ending where the couple reconciles.
What conventions of the genre did the movie have that you liked and why?
I liked that the movie was very relatable, funny and memorable. This film has a mix of humor with real and genuine emotions. It very relatable being that it is about teen relationships and self-expression which makes it easy to connect to. The chemistry between the actors kept me interacted and engaged. The scenes are nostalgic.
What conventions of the genre did the movie have that did not appeal to you and you are thinking of not filming for your final task and why?
This film didn't have much that I didn't appeal to me. One thing I would say is the misunderstandings. Relying heavily on misunderstandings to create conflict, since it can feel predictable. I'd rather focus on honest communication to make the story feel more realistic and meaningful.
