GENRE RESEARCH #3: ACTION
CAMS: There are several shots and angles used in superhero and actin films. For an example, Tracking shots. This is when the camera follow the character while they are moving. Directors might use tracking shots to show speed and increasing immersion allowing the audience to feel as if they are moving along side of the characters. Additionally, low and high angles. High angles are used to show the audience looking down on the character. This makes the character look small as in hopeless and vulnerable. Low angle is used to show the audience looking up at the character. This shows the character to be powerful. An establishing shot is used to show a full frame shot of the city in which the story is set.
CLAMPS: In the terms of setting, directors film usually in a cityscape setting. For example, Atlanta for Marvel and Cleveland for DC. Directors may use secret lairs to show the villains story and enhancing it.
EDITING: In superhero movies, there are plenty of common editing techniques like fast cuts, cuts between shots, flashbacks and SFX. Fast cuts during fighting scenes can bring the dramatic scenes. These are filled with high energy and intense emotions leaving the audience in awe. Lastly, CFX and SFX makes bullets or high pyrotechnics feel realistic intending the scenes filmed.
SOUNDS: Superhero movies include A LOT of sounds like dialogue. There are a lot of onomatopoeia like 'CRASHES' 'BOOM' 'BAM' and dramatic build up music. A lot of the 'BOOMS' and 'BAMS' are used to amplify the intensity of the punches and explosions during a scene, examples of this genre: Spiderman, Guardians of the Galaxy and Venom.
